I am sitting writing this post and for the first time in a week, I am able to tilt my head all the way back with only a slight feeling of tightness. It took a chiropractic adjustment, a 90 minute massage, 4 days off, and lots of icing and stretching for me to shake the muscle spasms in my shoulders and regain a fairly good range of motion in my neck.
I think about environmental sustainability all the time with my business. It comes into play in my choice to use recycled paper, organic cotton, and water-based, non-toxic ink. More and more my physical health is part of how I think about sustainability. I try to take at least one full day off per week –ideally two. I stretch, do moderate exercise, eat well, and do my best to spread my work load out.
Screenprinting is physically demanding work and I love the process. Currently I design, make the transparencies, burn my screens, print the designs, fold and package the cards, and the pack, ship and transport the goods to markets and shops. There’s a lot of physicality in this work that I love. However, as I move forward, I will be turning to different ways of printing and providing products. I’m just in the beginning stages of this new phase and I look forward to introducing those new facets of Orange Twist as they become a part of my product line.
